KLC Graduation Exhibition and Ceremony
Our annual Summer Exhibition and Awards Ceremony was a huge success. There was a high standard of work and this was rewarded by a large proportion of this year’s graduates gaining job placements on graduation. We were very honoured to have TV personality Kevin McCloud as our guest speaker, an expert in both interior and garden design. He gave a most inspirational and highly amusing account of life in these industries - a fitting send off for all our graduates.

The First Practical Parenting Show

The House & Garden /Daily Telegraph Spirit of Christmas
This year graduates of KLC courses presented festive roomsets with the theme Christmas Splendour –

Gold - The Gold roomset by Louise Gummer, Dip KLC 1994, and Pia Markerud, Cert KLC 2001, was a cosy dining room incorporating their own take on Scandinavian style. The traditional painted wooden floor, pale colours, painted furniture, a rug under the Christmas tree and the traditional Christmas goat (!) were all in there. But additions like velvet curtains, a golden plaster wall, metal lamps and French frames added a twist to the otherwise traditional dining room.

Silver – The Silver roomset by Clare Howard, Cert KLC Hons 2000, was a lavish dining room that would suit a young family or a professional couple who like to have fun at Christmas and make an impact. The subtle silver and grey backdrop was injected with ice blue and turquoise accessories and grounded with warm tones of dark brown wooden flooring and furniture. In contrast, the silver chairs and hundreds of fairy lights sparkled magically in silver and pewter table wear, set upon an invisible glass table shrouded in crisp white linen. It really was a room to inspire and enjoy the true spirit of Christmas with loved ones for Christmas day and many evenings beyond.

Bronze – The Bronze roomset by Judy Jarman, Open Learning Dip KLC 1995, and her colleagues at “design3” was a comfortable contemporary dining room with an ethnic slant. Inspired by the warmth of bronze and friends around the world it is both cosy and cosmopolitan. The use of clean lines, warm colours and minimal furnishings created an atmosphere of uncluttered simplicity where friends could enjoy each other’s company around the Christmas table.

KLC Information Stand - Julia Begbie KLC Dip 1998 designed our KLC Stand this year and was manned by KLC Vice Principal, Marcy Brown who co-ordinate KLC’s involvement at this annual Spirit of Christmas Show. Some of our KLC Alumni helped her and it was a wonderful opportunity for them to catch up with old friends and do Christmas shopping. There were plenty of ideas to inspire the many visitors to the Show and to get them into the spirit of Christmas.
