Chesneys Fireplaces have a policy of commissioning leading designers to come up with new ideas for their product range.  Most recently these have included Kelly Hoppen and Jasper Conran so we were very thrilled when they suggested working with KLC students.  Together with their Managing Director Paul Chesney we put together a project that required the students to re design the sitting room of his Victorian house in a simple, classical style to include a detailed design for a fireplace which would work in this room but also with a wide range of different interior styles.

It was clear from the resulting work that the students found this opportunity to work on a real project with a commercial edge stimulating and inspirational.  Paul commented “The range of designs that we were presented with was outstanding and we believe that we have been able to select a chimney piece and firebasket that have serious commercial potential.  It was impossible not to become infected by the enthusiasm with which all the students undertook the project and their unfettered approach to the search for something new will I am sure lead us to broaden our own thinking in this area.  Our congratuations to the two winners and our thanks to all their fellow students for all their hard work":

Keuw-Lih Schnepp for an outstanding Asian-influenced chimneypiece design entirely removed from the conventional area of fireplace design.  Absolutely of the moment, we believe that it will satisfy current demand for a design that is contemporary but observes the traditional rules of fireplace design and

Tara Craig for her elegant, sophisticated fire basket with serious commercial appeal.

Not to be left out!
There has been great press interest of late in the immensely stylish German, timber Huf Haus and the most recent brief for the Garden Design students has been to design a garden for a Huf Haus in Abbotsley in keeping with the contemporary architecture and the sleek, stylish interior designed by Gordon Lindsay.  The clients requested that the garden should include a dining area, a children’s play area and a quiet spot for relaxation.  They admire formal Italianate gardens and were keen that there should be a definite contrast between the garden proper and the surrounding woodland.  Some very exciting and varied designs have been produced on this project which we hope will meet with the clients’ approval at the forthcoming presentation.
