Pete goes to Hollywood Tutor Peter Bonney designed a garden in Hollywood Hills Los Angeles this year. He had to manage by working with photographs rather than a survey and sending his designs through via email. He went across in May for the actual build using a team of Mexicans who spoke not a word of English! Unrestricted access to a hosepipe was paradise after Kent’s water restrictions – a bit ironic considering Los Angeles is in a desert!
He has just completed a couple of roof terraces in South Kensington where everything (soil included) had to be lifted to the 5th floor. The lift went as far as the 4th floor and then there was a spiral staircase up to the roof level. The clients wanted window ledge planting but, as window boxes would have cut out too much light, Pete substituted a mat like product called Enviromat which looks like turf and is laid directly onto the surface to be planted.
Exam success Tutor Morwenna Brett (Interior Design) took RHS Level II Certificate in Horticulture in June and received a commendation for her exam. She is also doing KLC’s Garden Design Diploma to expand her knowledge.
