Through the choices we make, designers can spearhead many of the changes to lifestyles that will be needed to combat climate change and other environmental issues. Identifying some of those issues is the first step to making changes, and understanding the implications of our choices will help to motivate and encourage us as we set about this important task. Knowing that some of the changes that we can make will leave the planet and its people better off, whilst also bringing us financial benefits, should be the incentive we need to make us sit up, take notice and start taking action to improve the state of the planet.
This lecture will highlight some of the major environmental issues that designers can help address as they go about their daily business, and describe strategies that can be employed to combat the problems and bring about positive changes.
