Staff and Lecturers

The school has an excellent reputation for the content of its courses, extensive industry links and the successful employment of its graduates.

However, it is the care taken by the teaching and administrative staff that is at the heart of the student experience and feedback particularly highlights the professional, friendly approach of the loyal and dedicated staff.

All the tutors have design experience themselves with the majority practising in tandem with their teaching. It is this relevant, practical involvement in the industry that informs, underpins and invigorates the teaching provided.

Invaluable day to day support from our in house tutors provides cohesion for the course overall and personalised supervision is ensured with a low student to tutor ratio.

Emulating an actual design studio, projects are based on real life situations with actual clients and these are interspersed with inspirational lectures from leading figures within the interior and garden design industries.

Jenny Gibbs
Principal/ Founder

Jenny Gibbs, FRSA MCSD BIID FICPD
Principal/Founder

Jenny founded KLC in the early 1980s to meet the need she perceived for practical and technically based courses on interior design, which she had sought to help develop her own career and build on her early experience of interior, fashion and textile design. The vocationally orientated courses have helped countless graduates enter the industry which has been a particularly rewarding aspect of the school.

Over the years she has built up an outstanding team of tutors who provide the exceptionally high levels of support for students for which KLC is known. She has always fostered close industry links which have played a significant part in the development of the school and the quality of the student experience and was particularly proud to see the school become a validated partner of Brighton University in 2010. In addition to her work within the school she has given specialist talks nationally and internationally, written articles for a wide range of publications and is the author of four interior design books.

KLS is now firmly established as a leading independent design school and with her strong commitment to raising professional standards within the industry she has served on the Board of the British Institute of Interior Design as CPD Director and later as President. In 2014 she was the recipient of the BIID Merit Award.
