To gain an understanding of how to approach freehand sketching and to build confidence
This day provides a solid grounding in the principles of drawing. Students will learn the basics of drawing and composing, including how to create sketch perspectives, assume scale and introduce texture and tone into their illustrations.
Starting with a demonstration of various techniques, students then follow a series of exercises throughout the day. They will be given the option to experiment with a variety of drawing medium but the course will focus mainly on working with pencils and pens.
This day will build confidence and offer new creative opportunities to designers.
The syllabus includes:
- Overview – why sketching helps designers examine and develop ideas
- Tone and mark making
- Sketch perspectives
- Simple exercises to build confidence
Refreshments and a delicious light lunch will be provided on the first day of the course.
Ann Stephens has had a long career in the design industry. Formerly in fashion, designing for Mulberry, Conran Design and Laura Ashley. Following a career break, she re-trained on the Full-Time Certificate course at KLC School of Design. Graduating with honours in 2001.
Ann set up her own residential interiors practice, completing projects across London, the Isle of Wight, Spain and Croatia. Ann has always kept close links with KLC, and was lead tutor on the Full-Time Certificate course for 6 years, whilst continuing to design for private clients. Now a freelance lecturer, she teaches across various courses at KLC, in conjunction with her own interior design business.
