Reader Event: English Garden
Join The English Garden and KLC School of Design to learn how to get the most out of annuals, perennials, grasses and bulbs. Spend a special day with The English Garden magazine at KLC School of Design, in an exclusive reader event on 21 April. You’ll enjoy a chance to tap into the experience of two of the UK’s leading plant specialists, and learn how apply this knowledge at home.
A day of expert insight and inspirational talks that balance theory with practical application from Matthew Childs and Rosy Hardy.
- Advice on applying planting design principles and styles. Learn about annuals, perennials, grasses and bulbs, their size, preferred growing conditions and how to maintain seasonal interest.
- Devise a concept board for your garden with colour, form and texture as the focus.
- Learn how to plan perennial borders in detail, looking at the best planting combinations to use in a range of garden design styles.
- Devise a plan for your own garden. You’ll conceive a border of perennials, annuals, grasses and bulbs, bearing in mind location, aspect, soil type, and soil moisture.
A KLC School of Design alumni, Matthew’s design style features bold hard landscaping complemented with a tapestry of rich and full planting. He has won gold and silver-gilt medals at Hampton Court and Chelsea.
The renowned grower and breeder behind Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants in Hampshire, Rosy has 30 years’ experience growing plants commercially. She has amassed 21 gold medals at Chelsea, and is an RHS Herbaceous Committee member and an RHS exhibit judge. Rosy lectures widely.
Refreshments and a delicious light lunch will be provided on the first day of the course.
