Certificate Interior Design

Full TimePart Time

The Full Time Certificate course is the perfect option for those wishing to train quickly for a reputable design qualification, in order to find employment within the residential sector of the industry.

Focusing on all the relevant decorative and technical skills needed to design kitchens, bathrooms, living and sleeping areas within the home, this intensive twelve week course pushes students to develop their personal creativity, expand their design skillset and start to think like an interior designer.

Alongside carefully formulated workshops and lectures, students can look forward to visiting guest speakers, museum and showroom visits and access to the renowned KLC Careers Service upon completion of the course.

Course Details

In line with KLC’s practical approach to design education, students undertake a total of three projects and two research documents during the twelve week course. This enables them to complete their qualification with a diverse body of work which then forms the basis of their professional portfolio.

Certificate projects all have a residential focus, and increase in complexity as the course progresses - with students undertaking design briefs for bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/dining/living space projects, as well as research documents on ‘Evolution of Style’ and ‘Textiles Research & Application’.

New design theory and techniques are introduced at relevant points within the course, allowing students to develop skills such as:

  • Freehand sketching
  • Perspective drawing
  • Colour rendering and inking
  • Technical drawing for plans, elevations and sections
  • Colour, pattern & texture
  • Accessories & styling
  • Lighting design
  • Spatial planning & ergonomics
  • Materials & finishes
  • CAD software - SketchUp & Vectorworks
  • Environment & sustainable design
  • Professional Practice - including industry regulations & standards

Business administration and project management for design are also integrated into the course syllabus; ensuring students receive comprehensive and practical training which will be relevant for their subsequent entry into the industry.

Please note that students cover the same content and receive the same qualification whether they take the full time or part time study option.
