KLC Connect - It's all about Networking!
As per many other industries, networking is crucial to interior design. KLC offers their students the opportunity to experience this process here at the school, in a familiar environment.
In 2017, we launched KLC Connect - an initiative which aims at introducing and connecting students to the interior design community.
This initiative is designed to facilitate the transition from studying to employment. During these events, students have the chance to meet and talk with interior designers, suppliers, and industry experts.
Events vary from meeting with suppliers to one-to-ones with top interior designers. Also, industry experts come to our school to deliver talks exclusively for KLC students.
One of these recent events was the KLC Connect Designer Evening. With a set up similar to speed dating, students had the chance to interact individually with top interior designers. Among the big names: Tim Mutton, David Keech, Javier Garcia-Alzorriz and many other amazing professionals. You can find the full list of designers by following the link to the relevant news article.
Building a relationship with suppliers is crucial as an interior designer. KLC Connect recently hosted a networking event which allowed students to meet some of the leading suppliers specialising in different areas. For the full list of suppliers present, and to know more about the event, see the KLC Connect Suppliers Evening blog article.
These events are organised and overseen by a prestigious panel put together by KLC Founder and Principal Jenny Gibbs.
The panel includes key members of KLC staff, alumni and well known interior designers. Grant Pierrus, creator of award winning blog interiorstylehunter.com and founder of Pierrus Agency, which specialises in providing marketing solution to the luxury interiors industry, is part of the panel. So is Susie Rumbold, former president of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) and current Creative Director of Tessuto Interiors.
At the upcoming Graduation Show this July, Susie Rumbled will be delivering a talk on the challenges of making the transition from study to workplace, and how to overcome these. While Josh Gifford from Dezeen magazine will be giving students employment tips! Students will have the opportunity to book in some time with them to receive feedback on their portfolio.
Many are the exciting networking opportunities scheduled for next term as part of the KLC Connect initiative.
We are planning an event focusing on styling for a photoshoot and working with a photographer. There will be other opportunities for ono-to-one chats with top interior designers, in speed dating style, following its recent success. Additional activities include: an event to discover new trends and, an unmissable, Q&A session with professionals who work along interior designers – to discuss what is like to work in a team with other specialists.
With the KLC Connect events, we want to bring the industry to the students and prepare them for their debut into the fantastic world of interior design!
