How does it feel to be studying at KLC?

It feels amazing! I remember before I had applied to KLC, I was trying to get work experience with Interior Design Studios but wasn’t getting anywhere, and every time I asked for advice on how to get into the industry, KLC was recommended. Once looking into KLC I didn’t think it was possible for me, but do feel so lucky to be studying at one of the best interior design schools in the country.

How are your studies going so far?

My studies are going really well, I am working hard to produce some really good work and make the most of this amazing opportunity. I am using all of the skills taught regularly and practicing software packages with extra-curricular work to boost my skills. I am shocked year 1 is done already but am excited for year 2 to start in September.

How is the Bursary making a difference to your time at KLC?

My time at KLC wouldn’t be possible without the Bursary. Since the age of 17 I was working full time and have been saving since. Without the bursary, I would have really struggled and have had to work very hard to be in the position I am in now, and have done so all by myself which I am really proud of. I am so thankful for the bursary in making my dream career a reality!

How have you coped with the challenges of the COVID pandemic?

It has been tough but I have managed. In a creative industry like this, you learn best through physically touching and feeling materials, and being around other creatives – creativity breeds creativity. When one of our terms was online, I did find it quite challenging, but it was still manageable and am still proud of the work produced. I am however very glad to be back in studio!

How well has KLC adapted to those challenges? Did you feel supported?

KLC dealt with these challenges really well, I think the level of delivery we received was really good. KLC had to overcome the lockdown and how to deliver lectures really quickly, and I think they were delivered very smoothly.

What advice would you give someone contemplating studying interior design at KLC?

I would say definitely go for it! Nothing is impossible, and there is help and support out there to get to where you want to be. As long as this is what you want to do, you are determined and you are hardworking, nothing will get in your way!
