'Best in Show' at RHS Chelsea Flower Show
It couldn’t feel more like spring when it’s time for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show!
KLC School of Design was extremely proud to be part of the Royal Horticultural Society most prestigious exhibition this year. It took place at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, from Tuesday 21 – Saturday 25 May. It is, without doubt, the most glamorous event on the gardening calendar.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show has been around for 106 years. It’s the place to be if you are looking to be inspired by cutting-edge garden designs and want to find out more about plants. Alternatively, it is the perfect chance to witness spring in its full beauty!
Andy Sturgeon Design’s M&G Garden wins Gold Medal and 'Best in Show'
KLC Garden Diploma Alumni Andrew Lord (2012 & Senior Garden Designer at Andy Sturgeon Design), Maia Beresford (2018 & Garden Designer at Andy Sturgeon Design), Derran Llewellyn (2018) and Marc O’Neill (‘Superstar’, 2018) were all part of the Andy Sturgeon Design team.
Andy Sturgeon says: ”To receive a Gold Medal from the RHS at Chelsea – one of the highest honours you can achieve in horticulture and design – is a tremendous reward for all the team, after two years of planning, growing and sculpting this garden.”
Just across from the winning Andy Sturgeon Design garden, KLC’s Garden Diploma alumnus, Marc O’Neill, also had time to oversee the installation of his winning KLC Chelsea Flower Show Stand Design - a bespoke and modular garden room (pictured below).
Marc is the winner competition to ‘Design the KLC Stand at Chelsea Flower Show 2019’, which was opened to all KLC alumni.
Marc’s winning stand design created an uncluttered area with a brilliant, illusionistic opening onto a garden. The large glass window frame allowed a great view and brought plenty of natural light into the space.
In developing and installing the KLC stand at CFS, Marc was assisted by Diploma Interior Design alumnus Louise O’Hara alongside team of other alumni. They all worked tirelessly on this amazing project. The fantastic outcome of the stand wouldn’t have been possible without the extraordinary support of these suppliers: Clerkenwell Basket Maker, Stable of Ireland, Simon O'Driscoll Furniture and Sue Crug Farm Plants.
Marc and the team’s efforts were recognised by the RHS Chelsea Flower Show organisers. KLC was honoured to receive a 3 star Tradestand Award!
2018 graduates Derran Llewellyn and Sarah Mahr also deserve a mention for their great work at the event. They had the fantastic opportunity work with the show manager at the CFS in designing some of the communal areas within the exhibition.
KLC School of Design is incredibly proud of its alumni. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, KLC gained increased recognition at this year’s most prestigious garden show.
