KLC Connect Designer Evening

Published:

KLC Connect is an initiative which aims to make students feel a part of the design community and to add real value to their experience at KLC. Student, industry and alumni representatives work together to plan an innovative annual programme to give students a better understanding of how the industry works, provide extensive networking opportunities and help prepare them for the workplace.

KLC Connect created a Designer Evening with number of successful designers in attendance that offered valuable industry insight for our current students.

The Designer Event was also an opportunity to network and chat with London's leading designers with different areas of specialism e.g yachts, workspaces, hospitality, retail, residential, show houses, styling etc. Small groups of students were able to spend 10 minutes to chat to a designer to hear about their work and ask any questions etc. and then move on to the next designer.

It was a great success and highly enjoyed by all those that attended. One student said that she had not been aware of the length and breadth of design possibilities. The event invigorated and inspired her and that taking her course at KLC was absolutely the most important and best decision of her life. We received a number of positive feedback from attendees;

"It was so much fun and very satisfying sharing with the latest lovely students."

"It was a real pleasure to meet the students yesterday. Such a well organised and useful event!"

"The KLC Connect evening last night was a great opportunity to meet some really inspirational and exciting industry professionals and it also gave me some direction in terms of the areas in which I am interested in working and who I think is a good fit and vice versa."

KLC Principal, Jenny Gibbs, shared her thoughts on the Designer Evening, “KLC Connect is a programme of events and visits intended to make students feel more a part of the design community and to help bridge the gap between course and employment. The “Designer Evening” gives students the chance to talk informally, in small groups, to 14 leading designers to learn more about their work, their inspirations and what they look for in new recruits.
