‘Bonding in bubbles’ – Autumn Term 2020 at KLC School of Design.
KLC School of Design’s doors are open and students are studying Interior and Garden Design successfully onsite in our studios located in the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour. The application process for January, April and September 2021 courses are in full swing and we are ready to help you find the most suitable course for you.
KLC’s dedicated Operations team have been hard at work implementing all Government guidelines and more to ensure that our students, staff and visitor’s health and safety remains our top priority.
What can I expect when studying/attending onsite courses?
Health and Safety measures have been taken throughout the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour and when you enter KLC School. Upon arrival at the building, there will be temperature checks at the entrance of the Design Centre, multiple hand sanitiser stations, a one-way system in the corridors and all visitors must wear a face covering. The Design Centre has even installed foot-pulls to the toilet doors to avoid touching surfaces.
How have KLC Courses been adapted during this time?
KLC courses have created a successful blended learning approach that has been running at the school for over 15 years since the Blended Learning Diploma was created. The success of this approach and method of learning had allowed our Full Time Diploma Interior Design Course to transition into blended learning in September 2019 which has put KLC in a unique position to deal with COVID-19 as experts at making onsite and online learning blended together to produce a uniquely effective learning experience.
All of our Part Time course are still onsite for the same number of days as normal. Class starts and break times are staggered to prevent crowding in the corridors.
Teaching bubbles ensure all studios of students do not mix or share space, equipment and facilities. Face coverings need to be worn around the corridors that operate a one-way system. We use the test and trace app to keep a record of anyone that joins us on site.

Above: Students sometimes wear masks in studios when demonstrations are going on and they are walking about the studios, but masks are not needed when the class is sitting down at their social distanced desks or when in the smaller group bubbles.
What is our current students' onsite view on their current KLC experience?
Our Diploma HE Course Leader, Ruth Casserly, held a quick “live” catch up with Sept Diploma students and asked the question, ‘Are we delivering what you believed you were told?’ The following responses have been collected:
“Exceeding our expectations” came back the response.
“Loving the onsite time”
“Enjoying getting to know tutors and Course Leader via online “Morning Coffee catch up’s” before the start of lessons.”
“Bonding in Bubbles”
“Working through ways to share student work with each other”
"We’ve been really inspired by the visiting lecturers, it’s a really nice thing to have – it breaks up the day and puts everything into perspective in terms of why we’re learning what we’re learning and how we can progress."
