KLC still delivers enhanced careers support despite pandemic challenges

At KLC School of Design we have always been proud of our close ties with industry and future focused commitment to creating new and exciting opportunities for our students with leading industry professionals. We are thrilled to say that KLC graduates are now working in a broad and prestigious range of design companies and that there is a strong history of graduate successes.

This year, with all the trials and hurdles caused by the pandemic, we are immensely proud of our careers team, who have secured over 30 placements within the industry in addition to a brand-new mentorship program with over 37 recent KLC graduates from our onsite qualification courses placed with 37 mentors in the interior design industry.

“The KLC Careers Department have had to quickly adapt to the ongoing changes in the industry due to Covid, and find new ways to keep our graduate employment rates exceptionally high.

Throughout the pandemic we have successfully moved all of our lectures and 1:1 meetings online, and have provided students graduating during this difficult time with extra 1:1 support.

In addition, the department has arranged online networking events; which have successfully led to recently qualified graduates being offered industry roles and further expanded our list of industry contacts.

We have also managed to substitute our regular work experience placements with 1:1 mentoring sessions with leading employers, in order to get our students as much exposure in the industry as possible.

Finally, the shift to the online exhibition has actually benefited our graduates, granting them a wider reach and audience, both from national and international design studios.”

This is no small feat in the current climate, but one which exemplifies KLCs core tenants of industry focused learning and career support. As KLC’s Director of Studies, Diana McKnight put it

The Careers Service is an essential part of the student experience. The careers team works concurrently with students and Course Leaders, meeting students at strategic points in their learning, including attendance at project presentations. Well before graduation, this process ensures that students’ aims and skills are kept in mind for employment / placements.  Especially in the current situation, the team have adapted exceedingly successfully to facilitate work opportunities.”

Students and Employees alike are continually impressed and delighted by our program. Employees love that KLC graduates have been effectively prepared for entry into the industry with practical and commercial knowledge. As a recent KLC graduate, from our Full Time Diploma HE Interior Design course 2020 said I had a great time and learnt so much during my internship so I am delighted to be able to stay on with the firm with which I was placed! Thank you so much for all your help and support to date.”

We at KLC can’t wait to welcome pupils back to on-site teaching at the beginning of Summer Term continuing with our courses in their blended learning version with a combination of onsite and online tuition.
