Open Learning Student of the Year for Online Certificate Residential Interior Design
Winner: Emily Coles

Emily Coles is the winner of the Open Learning Interior Design Student of the Year award for 2022. Emily has successfully completed the course, gaining the online certificate in Interior Design with a final grade of Distinction.

Emily shared what she enjoyed learning on the course, "One of my biggest joys is space planning – I could happily draw up multiple floorplan solutions and working out the pros and cons for each. I also always love the physical aspect of the sample boards and I could spend hours drawing 3D models in SketchUp. It is a very intuitive programme that I have learnt to love."

Emily shares her biggest strength from her submissions as,"I think my presentation is a strength – I like everything to have a cohesive look and I am quite particular about presentation of the sample boards. Also the journey I followed through with the ‘clients’ from Design Analysis through to completion felt really strong and positive."

Open Learning Student of the Year for Online Certificate Residential Garden Design
Winner: Sylvia Ingmanns

Sylvia Ingmanns is the winner of the Open Learning Garden Diploma Student of the Year award for 2022.

Sylvia has successfully completed the course, gaining a diploma in Garden Design and achieving a final grade of distinction.

Sylvia shared her thoughts on completing the final projct and course, "I am very happy with the result. During the design process, I only did everything by hand as before, but decided in July that I couldn't avoid CAD and in the summer I learned SketchUp, which opened up unimagined possibilities. The history prject turned out to be more extensive than I initially thought. I have to admit, Im a little bit proud but also relieved that I ave actually finished the course. And yes, I do like my final design."

Sylvia also shared that 'selecting plants is always a great pleasure’, and noted that ‘It was a very good decision to study garden design at KLC as it makes me feel much more confident to start my own business’.
