Course Description

Before you can offer professional design services, you need to create the business that will act as your shop front in the marketplace.

This course is the first in a loosely linked group of three, and introduces the processes of establishing a brand new business from first principles. 

KLC selects tutors to lead this course based on their rich experience of running their own practice (either interior or garden design) and during this information-packed day your tutor will cover the general considerations for setting up any business along with some specifics for those offering design services in particular.

  • Understand the fundamental preparation required to support the: physical, digital, administrative, regulatory, and promotional activities of your new business.

This one-day course is the first in a series of three which can be taken separately but are designed to complement each other.  The other courses in this series are: 

Running a Profitable Design Business: (KLC Business Skills 2) takes a closer look at the relationship between your business and your clients, and considers how to grow your business and increase revenues and profits.  

Effective Project Coordination: (KLC Business Skills 3) looks in detail at the process of running and managing interior design projects specifically. 

NOTE: This first course is suited to both garden and interior designers, and may be led by a specialist from either discipline.  The other courses in this series are more specific to interior design practice.
