KLC at Grand Designs Live: Under the Stairs Project
Grand Designs Live is an award-winning home event for ideas, inspiration and expert advice. The event is taking place at London's ExCeL from 4-12 May 2019. Purchase your tickets here!
KLC is delighted to have been involved in their Under the Stairs Project with two online students shortlisted in the competition. We are also excited to announce that KLC founder, Jenny Gibbs, is part of the judging panel tasked with selecting the winning designs.
The Under the Stairs Project is a competition for Interior Designers, aiming to inspire visitors and encourage them to take home new ideas, information and supplier contacts. This competition focuses on the uplift in the use of unconventional spaces and we are inviting pioneering interior stylists to come and bring their ideas to life at the show, using colour, materials, and patterns to achieve some impressive spaces.
This year’s finalists will be dressing their space with products which are easily accessible to visitors and are either in stock or online from current British retailers, manufacturers and designers.
This winner of the competition will be announced on the Grand Theatre at the show, with judges including KLC Founder, Jenny Gibbs, Kevin McCloud and Barbara Chandler from the London Evening Standard.
“With the increasing trend towards smaller homes every bit of space needs to be put to use. This is a really fun and interesting challenge and I am looking forward to seeing how the entrants solve some of the related practical problems and the creative ideas that emerge.” - Jenny Gibbs, KLC School of Design
Congratulations to our shortlisted students, Kristyna McDarby and Amanda Neilson. Please see their designs and story below.
Kristyna is currently studying the Online Residential Certificate with KLC School of Design to become a specialist interior designer. She is from Prague, Czech Republic although currently living in London. She is happy to be following her passion and doing what she loves. Her main inspiration is the natural world with a modern influence. Using muted grey and wood tones, with heavily textured materials and fun touches alongside decorative artwork and walling, this modern, spacious and cosy dog house is the perfect retreat for a pampered pooch.
Amanda is currently studying the Online Diploma Interior Design with KLC School of Design. Embracing the more ‘traditional’ use of an under-the-stairs space, a downstairs toilet, Amanda Neilson’s deign incorporates elements of design to bring a modern, spacious look to a usually cramped area. Using natural elements and textures, alongside green tones, spliced with bright floral colours and metallic accents, this beautifully natural powder room provides a small sanctuary in the home.
We look forward to sharing further updates of our event involvement soon.
