Q. What was your background before KLC?
A. Before staring the Interior Design BA at KLC I was working in fashion merchandising for ASOS after graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2018 with a Fine Art Degree.
Q. Why did you decide to study Interior Design?
A. I have always been fascinated by the endless problem-solving abilities of good design, and the enormous impact it can have on the way we live, and the world we live in. Interior Design, for me, offered a unique opportunity to combine a wildly creative fine art education with the technical problem solving that comes with spatial design.
Q. Tell us about your experience of the course?
A. Coming into third year of the BA course as external student, I knew I was somewhat ‘jumping into the deep end’, but the detail and quantity of content taught during this past year has been incredible. I’ve been both challenged and hugely inspired through each project and have learnt an enormous amount about the industry, design processes, and my own abilities.
Q. Where to from here?
A. Throughout this past academic year I have been hugely inspired by innovative commercial design precedents that place sustainability and user-wellbeing at their core, particularly relevant in a post-Covid society. This has highlighted that commercial design is a sector I am particularly interested in, and one I hope to move into post-graduation.
STUDY TIP - For any future students, particularly those considering joining the third year, I think you’ve just got to take the plunge! Hitting the ground running in the first term is a little daunting, but jumping in and really embracing the first project gives a fantastic insight into design processes and industry jargon that will be invaluable throughout the course. Learning was definitely made easier by doing, particularly when it came to software like Revit. I can whole-heartedly say I don’t think I have ever learnt so much in such a short amount of time!
