Q. What was your background before KLC?
A: I was working in Marketing for an Out of Home Media Agency in Holborn, after graduating from an Marketing and Advertisement Degree in Canterbury. I also previously qualified as a MAC Make Up Artist.
Q. Why did you decide to study Interior Design?
A: I remember whilst in my previous role, I was helping the Marketing Director with an internal development day. We were asked to present something we were passionate about, I chose my favourite interior designers and styles. Afterwards, people started to approach me asking why I wasn’t doing that for an career, and I had no idea why I wasn’t! I’ve always been massively passionate about the industry, so I took the leap and started studying at KLC.
Q. What did you think of the course?
A: The course was challenging at times, but absolutely worth it. Looking back at my first project, I cannot believe how far my skills have develop and continue to develop in my current role within the industry. My studies have also allowed me to complete two invaluable internships along the way. My tutors, Becky and Marianna, are so knowledgable and supportive. My only regret would be that I didn’t do it sooner!
STUDY TIP - Visit as many design related places as possible. Design fairs, supplier events, KLC events, studio open days, are all so inspiring and gives you a chance to meet interesting people in the industry. Don’t give up! When you look back at your first project, you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come, and all the hard work will be worth it. Melissa Read
