Certificate of Interior Design -

Caroline Jonsson

Interior Designer

"The skills that I gained during my three months at KLC have been invaluable in my current profession in lighting design."

What were you doing before KLC and why did you decide to attend KLC?
Before deciding on doing the course at KLC I was a Store Manager in central London, after having done a management programme with the company. The lack of creativity in my role and my genuine interest in interiors was the deciding factor to study Interior Design at KLC.

Can you identify some of the highlights of your time at KLC?
Firstly the skills that I gained during my three months at KLC have been invaluable in my current profession in lighting design. Working towards a tight deadline motivated me further and helped push boundaries in terms of creativity. The support of the tutors throughout the duration of the course and their insight into the industry was very useful. This support continues past your time at KLC - with the Careers Service - so it's comforting to know that they are always there to help in case you need it.

Where did you find inspiration for your final project?
Picking up keywords from the clients' brief and researching these words in order to compile mood/scene imagery was where I found my inspiration. The research was done through the use of magazines, books, the Internet, photos of restaurants/hotels etc. These mood images/scenes were curated to conform to the client’s needs and requests.

What challenges did you face during the final project?
Time management! This was a very intense course which is good in order to prepare you for the real thing. The fast-paced nature of the course helps you focus on the most important aspects of your project rather than procrastinate or waste time on the small and unnecessary details that won't affect your overall scheme.

How has your career evolved since KLC?
Being introduced to lighting design during my course at KLC confirmed my interest in starting a career in lighting. I have recently joined Paul Nulty Lighting Design as an intern and have started my journey towards becoming a lighting designer.
