Diploma in Interior Design -

Victor Gradinaru

Interior Designer

What was your background before KLC?
I knew from an early age that I wanted to work within architecture and interior design and I was lucky enough to be encouraged by my parents to do what I love. I attended the University of Architecture in Bucharest and in my third year, after an internship with a Romanian architectural firm, I decided to take some interior design courses to further improve my knowledge.

Why did you decide to study Interior Design?
After studying on the Certificate course at KLC, I worked as a design assistant for Studio Reed, which gave me invaluable industry experience. This made me even more keen to study interior design in more depth, hence returning to KLC for the Diploma course.

What did you think of the course?
The Diploma course is a full time course, with very intense periods but also a lot of fun! The course is structured between lectures, workshops and private study. Being a foreign student, I had concerns regarding my understanding of the information given, but the support from tutors makes life so much easier and I as a result, I didn't struggle.

What was your favourite part of the course?
The most amazing element of the course is watching your designs come to life, from the initial spark of inspiration, to scrawling in sketchbooks in order to test out potential ideas. Developing rough sketches into presentation standard 3D models is fantastic, There were also great advantages to studying "in-house" on the full time course; I got help from all the tutors and I had access to the library, magazines and all the materials I needed.

What are you inspired by?
When you open your mind to creativity, inspiration can come from anywhere. It's not about searching for it, it's about observing and opening your eyes to what is around you. This is something I have always believed in as well as an ethos encouraged by the tutors here.

What are your design interests / strengths?
My key strengths are: technical drawing (AutoCAD), visuals (SketchUp, InDesign, Photoshop), sourcing and presentation.
