What was your background before KLC?
I have built up an interior design business over a number of years but I was aware of the need for continued professional development to keep my work relevant to the current market so I completed the Foundation Degree in Interior Design and the Garden Diploma.
Why did you decide to study Garden Design?
I have completed many high end interiors but noticed the lack of continuity as the garden design was passed to a third party. My vision was to offer clients a complete design package including interior and exterior design allowing a synergy between the two. The KLC had a reputation as one of the most respected interior design course within the industry so I decided to study with them.
What did you think of the course?
Based on reputation I had high expectations for the course and I was not disappointed. The coursework was well structured and pushed me at every level to develop as a designer. As a distance learning student I was expecting to work in isolation but the team at the KLC were incredibly supportive and I felt as if I was working within a community of like minded people.
What are your design interests/strengths?
I have always had a passion for design, I earn a living doing what I enjoy and I feel very privileged to be in this position.
My key strength is my ability to understand a client's requirements and push the brief to offer a creative solution that surpasses the clients' expectations. As a designer, I have developed my ability to illustrate my ideas with hand sketches, detailed technical drawings and with digital presentations to allow the client to clearly see my vision for their scheme.
Who is your favourite designer?
When I was starting my career as a designer I stumbled on a book by Charles Jencks. I don’t think it would be an understatement to say that the innovation and creativity within his work changed my life and still inspires me to this day.
What do you hope to achieve in your professional career?
I now work as a freelance designer and illustrator specialising in interior and exterior design. I see each new project as an opportunity to create something special for my clients. My aim is to build up a reputation within the industry where private and commercial clients seek out my services based on my ability to achieve results.
