Noemi Mercurelli

Garden Designer

"The quality of the course, the knowledge of the tutors, the variety of projects offered, the network and the exposures to the major Garden-Design-related events is just phenomenal!"

What were you doing before KLC?
I graduated in Applied Bioecology and was training to become a plant hunter.

Why did you decide to attend KLC?
Although I loved my studies, I was looking for something more creative to do with my life and the KLC course seemed the best way to combine my love for nature and plants with a more creative life!

Can you identify some of the highlights of your time at KLC?
The quality of the course, the knowledge of the tutors, the variety of projects offered, the network and the exposure to the major Garden-Design-related events is just phenomenal!

Where did you find inspiration for your course work?
Inspiration came a bit from everywhere, especially the most unexpected sources. Thanks to tutor Clare Nicholson I gradually learn to let my very scientific mind go and wonder…and to look at everything with different eyes.

What challenges did you face during the course?
The course is very intense, leaving very little time for yourself. But it was definitively worthwhile and moving to the UK for the course was the best decision ever!

How has your career evolved since KLC?
Just one month after the end of the course I was shortlisted as RHS Young Designer of The Year, and immediately after that, I started a series of part-time collaborations with different Garden Design practices, mostly run by KLC alumni, while running my own business in the remaining part of the week.

Since 2014 I have been an associate at Bestique, a fantastic and innovative design studio run by KLC Alumni-of-the-year Anoushka Feiler (RHS Gold Medalist and twice Best in Show).

What exciting projects are you working on currently?
Unfortuntately I cannot reveal them yet, but they will be posted on my blog soon.

What advice would you give to an aspiring designer, who's thinking of studying at KLC?Just go for it! You will not regret it.
