Name: Elena Parker
Course: Blended Learning Diploma Interior Design
What is your professional background prior to KLC?
I started my career as a primary school teacher; I then decided to change to an office administration job. I've always felt passionate about design and style, but was never brave enough to make that life changing decision and start following my dream until about a year ago, when I realised that I couldn't resist it any longer and took the plunge.
When you were looking for courses, what was it about this course that appealed to you?
It was the flexible structure of the course that appealed to me, as travelling every day from the South East coast simply wasn't an option. KLC's high reputation, as well as the support the course provides during and after the course were also deciding factors.
How does the course fit around your lifestyle?
Although I knew it would be a demanding course to study on, I probably underestimated the amount of time required to complete each project to a high standard and gradually it just took over my life. So, probably it will be more correct to say that now my lifestyle fits around the course rather than the course fits around my lifestyle. Despite all the challenges, I'm still enjoying it immensely and if I was asked again my choice would still be the same.
What are you enjoying most about the course?
Exploring and unveiling my creativity, learning new skills and an opportunity to apply them during each project work. I also love the workshops where all students have a chance to interact producing lots of great ideas. Creative study is so different to any other type of studies - this is a totally new experience and I wish I'd discovered it earlier in my life.
Where do you look for inspiration?
It's literally everywhere. Nature is probably the most plentiful source of inspiration. I love taking photographs and explore things that don't just jump at you, but invite you to take time and discover them. As my dad used to say: "Everybody looks, but not everybody can see." He taught me to see…
