Interior Designer
What is your professional background prior to KLC?
After completing my Bachelor of Commerce degree, I worked in a graduate role at a large branding consultancy in Sydney. This really confirmed that the corporate world was not for me - I then decided that I wanted to do something creative and follow my passion for interior design.
When you were looking for courses, what appealed to you about this course?
As I wanted to study abroad, I was looking for an intensive 1 year course that would be internationally recognised, so the KLC Diploma course seemed ideal. It appeared thorough and I liked that it touches on aspects of interior design from the conceptual to the practical, such as construction methods. I was also attracted by the industry links through the course tutors and the fact that work experience is an included part of the course.
How does the course fit your lifestyle?
During term time, I find that the course becomes my life. It would be unrealistic to hold down a part time job whilst studying the diploma course, simply because of work load around projects. It's great having time off to relax and travel in the breaks and I'm planning on seeing a lot of Europe over the summer.
What are you enjoying most about the course?
The projects have been both the best and worst things about the course. I've never worked this hard in my life and it has been stressful at times, but it's incredibly rewarding seeing what we've become capable of in such a short period of time.
Where do you look for inspiration?
I have a number of blogs that I turn to. My favourite design blog is an Australian one called 'The Design Files', which showcases gorgeous interior work. I also look at Architonic and Retail Design Blog quite frequently, as well as just looking through lovely images on Pinterest. The course has taught me to be more open to inspiration in everyday life too.
