Careers and Employability
KLC offers a long-established and proactive careers service, which is an integral part of the outcomes from studying at KLC
The end goal of our training is to secure work in the industry for our graduates and we actively facilitate this.
Throughout the course, students are educated on CV preparation, portfolio presentation and professional practice with all alumni having access to our very busy KLC Online Jobs Board.
For our validated onsite courses, work shadowing is organised for students during holiday breaks and, for online courses, we would connect those students to any local alumni (if available) and provide guidance on how to proactively approach local interior design or architectural firms in your prospective area of job search wherever possible.
Students are offered multiple 1-2-1 career sessions throughout their course and on graduation, KLC helps graduates find internships, job placements and freelance appointments utilising our KLC Online Jobs Board. Great care is taken to match the student's aspirations and abilities with a suitable design practice wherever possible.
For our non-validated industry-recognised courses, you will also have access to the same KLC Online Jobs Board and your job search will be self-directed, but still supported by the careers service with 1-2-1 meetings available after your studies have been completed.
Employers appreciate the way that KLC graduates have been effectively prepared for entry into the industry with practical and commercial knowledge combined with design skills and nurtured creativity. Consequently, KLC graduates are now working in a broad and prestigious range of design companies and there is a history of graduate successes.
KLC keeps in close contact with past students worldwide through the KLC Alumni Association and continues to offer ongoing life-long careers advice.
The Association provides a unique international network of creative individuals and aims to keep them connected with the school and other graduates via news updates, careers support, networking opportunities and the event programme.
International Student Two-Year Work Entitlement
In September 2019, the UK Government announced a new two-year post-study work visa, expanding opportunities for talented international students to build successful careers in the UK from 2020-21 onwards. This means qualifying international students completing a BA (Hons) Degree can stay and work in the UK for 2 years and then possibly apply for a skilled work visa. Visit the Gov UK website for more details.
KLC does not support unpaid internships. We accept that a brief period of work experience post-graduation can be on an expenses-paid basis as part of an extended period of interior design training. However, we believe that anything longer than two weeks (full time) or four weeks (part-time) should be paid at National Minimum Wage at least and we won’t promote or endorse internships offered otherwise.
